Enkarterri Open Lab was born in September 2019 with the objective of facilitating the detection of innovation opportunities in the agri-food sector in Enkarterrialde region in Bizkaia through: the generation of alliances, connections and association of agents participating in the food value chain, the local product approach quality to the consumer and the commitment. We aim to convert Enkarterri into an innovative territory with the development axis of gastronomy, food and healthy life.

The main mission of this project is agri-food innovation throughout the wholw value chain: from production, transformation, distribution, commercialization all the way to consumption. The proposed actions aim to promote the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the region linked to the agri-food sector. To do this, and following the CIC model of Connect, Inspire and Create, different actions will be carried out during the next months.

  • The first action of this project will be the Enkarterri Open Lab /Bootcamp that will take place in Balmaseda on November 27, 28 and 29 leaded by ADR Enkarterrialde, the City Council of Balmaseda and DOT S. Coop. It will be the first bootcamp of agrifood innovation in Enkarterri becoming a platform to address innovation projects from gastronomy, agriculture, health, welfare and sustainability and with the principles of open innovation, product design, local development and digital transformation.

 

  • One of the following actions will be the Enkarterri Open Lab /Bizi that will focus on the organization of training days and activities and field visits to success stories with allied entities such as the Hazi Foundation or Elika (Basque Foundation for Food Security). the activities they will be linked to the Sustainable Development goals within the PDR 2020 Regional Rural Development Plan and the RIS3.

 

  • In addition, under the umbrella of this initiative, the Enkarterri Open Lab /Fest will also be carried out, which will seek to publicize high-value projects in the agri-food sector. To this end, the first edition of the Enkarterri Open Lab 2020 awards will be held in the first half of 2020 in order to reward relevant initiatives in the region in food, welfare, social impact and the expansion of Enkarterri’s values as a healthy territory.

This open innovation platform has a website, as an information hub and connection point between the people interested in the project.

This project of DOT and the ADR Enkarterrialde has been launched together with the City Council of Balmaseda and financed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia within the Program for the promotion of Innovation in Elkarlanean Cooperation 2019 in order to promote a new strategic line of work to create opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation in the agri-food sector of Enkarterri. In addition, from DOT we have invited strategic allies such as the Basque Culinary Center, Eroski or BBK Fundazioa to join the initiative
